Remove AppleID from sold iPhone?

I sold my old iPhone 4, and the buyer says that he can't activate it, gets a message that it's still linked to an existing AppleID. But when I log into my account at appleid.apple.com, it doesn't show this old device as being linked. How can I remove it?
