My sound is not working. Says headphones. How do I change

When I use button on side of iPad to adjust volume it says mute or headphones. I don't want to use headphones

Welcome to iMore! Could be a bit of debris in it. Try plugging the headphone jack in and out about 10 times and see if that helps. If not, let us know.
