My contacts and favorites list ha disappeared how do I get them back?

I tried to make a phone call this morning and I no longer have a list of contacts or a favorites list. all that shows up is recents, keypad and voicemail

Reboot the device. If they don't return, restore from a backup. If they still don't return, re-create your favorites list manually.
