Locked Files & Pictures

I have an expansion drive with both documents and pictures that I need to clean up. They are locked and I can't move them to the trash. Is there a way to do a mass unlock or do I need to go to a Windows pc? I'm new to Mac and this is just one of the many mysteries I've found.

Well you could always do a complete reformat of the drive? That will erase it completely and reformat it to work with the mac ( which is probably why it's not working to throw items to the trash now)
