Is it possible to turn ipod touch screen on by pressing the volume buttons?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation and the home and power buttons are not working. I'm using the assistive touch but to unlock the ipod i need to conect in the usb cable to turn the screen on, then i want to know if there is any way to turn the screen on by pressing the volume buttons. If it is possible, does it need jailbreak?
