How can I sync my iOS devices to an external drive via my MacBook?

Hello, I have moved over to a MacBook Air (128gb) from a Surface Pro (128gb). I would sync my iPad and iPhone with the Surface. I could make it place the mobile sync folder onto an external drive no problem, using a junction point. That way it wouldn't fill up my internal storage on my Surface. Now that I'm using a MacBook, I can't figure out how to place the mobile sync folder on an external drive and I have about 8gb left. If I try to sync again (at least one day soon! I'm gonna not have enough space. Plus, 8gb isn't enough for what else I want to put on my MacBook

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Hey Tartus,
I found this helps a LOT❗️ I appreciate it. Especially since part of getting my first MacBook was to back up my other Apple devices.
