My mom has an iPad, first generation wifi+3G, she is going to sell to me but I only wanna use for wifi. Is that possible? Will it work just fine if I don't activate the 3G data?

Yep. Just don't activate the 3G data and it will function just like the WiFi version... because, effectively, that what it will be then...

Just out of curiosity. If I do not have a SIM card in there, will the upper left hand corner just say iPad kind of like the iPod and whether or not it is connected to wifi? It won't say AT&T still, will it?

It will just say iPad and show the wifi meter... if there's no active service, there's nothing to measure.

3G is just the capability. Just like the iPhone if you remove the sim it will still function just on wifi.

The main difference is with iPad you won't need to activate it the same way as the iPhone so you shouldn't have any problems.
