New Guy, Frustrated, Sorry...

Ok, I have searched. And I have read the FAQ. Maybe I'm just
not searching for the right things, but I just need to ask some
questions. I am brand new to the jail breaking arena. I have
just jail broken my iP4 (4.2.1). I set it up as a new iPhone in
iTunes. After I synced all the music, apps, etc., I went to Cydia
and downloaded my first app: the Five Dock thing. After it
downloaded it asked me to reboot. So I rebooted. It went to
boot mode (with the Apple logo) and stopped there. Was my
mistake that I didn't plug it in first? And do I have to plug it in
and reboot every time I download a Cydia app? If so, will it
automatically reboot correctly if I am plugged in before rebooting?
I understand that only a tethered jailbreak is available for 4.2.1
at the moment. So does that mean that any changes I make
(like installing a Cydia app) requires me to do everything while
the phone is plugged in?

Sorry for the newb questions. I'm trying to learn by searching, I
swear, but I just couldn't find the answer to these. Thanks in
advance for any help. Looking forward to getting more familiar
with this whole thing. :)

Not all Cydia apps will require a reboot, but when you do have to do it, the "tethered jailbreak" means that yes, your phone needs to be tethered to your computer with your cable. To reboot, run redsn0w and choose "just boot tethered right now.?

Kind of a pain, but you can make life easier by installing your Cydia apps using the queue method--that way you get them all set to install and do it at once. To do this just click Cancel when it asks to install, then choose Continue Queuing and browse to the next app you want to install. When you add the final app, choose Install to load all the apps at the same time.
