for those who have had their 5s replaced for whatever reason i was just wondering if you could list the first couple letters of the first 5s serial numbers you had vs the replacements serial numbers

my new replacement starts with DNP what are yours? just want to see if the replacements have the same letters to start

Well, I don't think that Apple has patterns like those to differentiate between off the shelf and replacement phones. I had my iPhone 5 replaced three times (don't ask) and none of them had any repeating 'code' of any sort.

The model numbers should be different. When I got a replacement 5 the model number began with an N instead of M.

There is no relevance between the serial # and the identity of a refurbished or new device. Your serial numbers were simply different, nothing more.

My iPhone 5's original part number was MD634LL/A. The replacement part number was NE486LL/A. The NE means either refurbished or replacement from the research I've done.

Doesn't mean anything....

I have had multiple iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 and 5s. All were different. Nothing meant new or refurb.

Your research was misguided and the results you came to were inaccurate.
