I've followed your instructions to power down my phone but how do I switch it on again

My on off button isn't working so I followed the instructions to power down through my settings which worked but how do I now power it up again

if you plug it into a power source, it should power on

You didn't mention which model you've got. There have been some 5 and/or 5a devices that have had a faulty power switch.

Might be prudent to call Apple and see if you can make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store.
