How to reinstate screen icon of "contacts"

somehow the icon for "contacts" has disappeared from my screen. How can I reintstate it?

Definitely do exactly what @Matt-B stated.

Additionally, you can spotlight search your phone to see if it comes up as a result. Depending on your apps etc it may just be lost somewhere on a home screen.

Last resort might be to hit settings - general - reset - home screen layout. It'll destroy all your foldering and organization but it'll definitely put contacts in the "extras" folder.
