new Iphone 12 has grey area at bottom of home screen

my wife's new iPhone 12 with old data transferred has a large grey area in the shape of a button at the bottom of the home screen. How do I get rid of it?
Also, the hoome screen does not have the phone app in it., but appears in SOCIAL screen two screens later. How do I transfer the app icon to the first page of the home screen or add it?

That looks like the dock. Drag 4 apps down to the dock. Like the phone app, Messages, photos, and camera, for example. Once in the dock, they will show on every home screen.

Same as every other iPhone. Hold and drag whatever apps you want to have on the dock.
