How do i stop my iPhone streaming all the emails I Have ever had?

about 3 times a day my iPhone 5 starts streaming all the emails I have ever had. (Even ones I have opened and ones from over 4 years ago). So in the space of around 10 seconds I am reciving thousands of emails with makes my phone constantly vibrate while doing this.

How do I stop this happening?

Either remove the account or limit the number of sync days to something like 3 months or less via the mail settings.
