Don't know my iPad password. How can I recover it?

Don't know my iPad password. I have PASSCODE only.

After fooling around and changing things, I was in a mess so pressed RESET.
Now can't connect to WIFI without password. I am asked for Passcode which I have then asked for PASSWORD. Have no idea what it is. I presume I can do something in settings but i don't know what.

The device you're trying to access after resetting it, is protected by the iCloud Activation lock. If you do not know the password, you will not be able to use the device, and there is nothing we can do for you. It is a "security" measure that can be rectified by you if you enter the password in which you should know.

The password you claim to not know is your  ID password the same one you use for app purchases
