can't add or remove a contact to a group message in ios 8.1.2 the option button is not there

I have 7 people in a group message right now and want to add another. I have no option butons to add contacts to the group message, or delete people from the group message, or option to forward message to any other contact. In the apple explanation section it shows how it's supposed to operate and it shows a button to add contact etc.. However, I have no such button.....

That is not true. I have group messages that I certainly did not start and I am still able to add people to.
