what if you keyboard doesn't open up?

i used to be able to quickly respond without opening imessage app but all of a sudden i pull down and the keyboard never appears for me to use it to answer with.

Are you using a 3rd party keyboard? If so, they seem to be wreaking havok with the messages app and other places. Even though the stock keyboard is the only one used for quick reply, a 3rd party keyboard may still cause problems like freezing up and the keyboard vanishing.
