I have the Apex sound chosen in my setting as the alert for Text Message. When someone texts me, I do not get a sound alert.

Is the phone on vibrate? If not does it ring when someone calls you

Also make sure you don't have it in Do Not Disturb mode if you do it will show a half moon on your status bar to the left of your battery indicator
