Will the 2011 MacBook Air 11" drive the new 5K LG display with Tbolt2 to USB-C adapter cable?

I have a Nov 2011 MacBook Air 11" (i7 processor) and have ordered the new Lg 5k monitor for my new MacBook Pro. Will the Air be seen on the monitor with appropriate cable or is it just not powerfull enough to drive it? I've asked at the Apple store and am told no, that it will not work. The person wasn't speaking from experience, however, so I am wondering if anyone out there would know for sure. Thanks.
