Why does Safari keep crashing on my iPod Touch?

My iPod Touch (4th Gen) runs ios version 6.1.6 & Safari keeps crashing. It'll load a page then crash to a black screen within a few seconds to a minute or two (usually just a few seconds though). I also have the same problem when trying to run iTunes (always) & sometimes Facebook & Instagram too. I have roughly 3% (9.9MB of 249.0MB) RAM Memory free (though this fluctuates from 1% to 4%) & currently approx 45 Processes running. Under Settings>General>About>Diagnostics & Usage> D & U Data I've noticed many mentions of 'Latest Crash' & 'Low Memory'.

Does any of this have anything to do with Safari crashing, or is it something else?

Any help to rectify this would be greatly appreciated.

I'd try restoring the iOS if it were mine...
