Why does my battery go from 50% to zero in a few minutes at night?

When I check my phone the battery life is between 40-50%, then suddenly it goes down to 1%. When I plug it in within 10 minutes it is back to 45-55%.

Battery meter is out of sync... Let it run until it shuts off... Then connect to a charger and let it charge undisturbed once every month or two.
