Why can't I receive mail after 8.2 update?

Cannot receive mail after 8.2 update

I updated my ipad2 to ios8.2 on monday and have been unable to receive mail since. I have tried deleting and recreating the account but to no avail. I can send mail but cannot receive.

I received 17 new mails on my iphone today, which has not been updated, but nothing on the ipad, how can i get mail working again?

I had already tried the steps listed in the apple steps - they make no difference
