Ouch.
50% drop in value after 2 months, that’s pretty embarrassing. I guess s22 sales have fallen off a cliff.

Resale value means absolutely nothing on a $12OO value phone. In tech, everything is pretty much disposable products. It's not like we're talking houses are cars. I won't mention the resale value I lost on my Audi S6. That was pre pandemic of course.

Feeling kind of sorry for those that paid full price at launch.

iPhones seem to be fine retaining value.

Not really, It's only a $1200 piece of tech. I feel sorry for the people that thing that losing money on a $1200 piece of tech is an issue. They're basically throw away items. The only reason why I trade mine in is so It gets disposed of properly and helps with the landfills.

Hmmmm….That’s an interesting take and one I will indeed remember.

That would make you fortunate. For many people that is a great deal of money. I’d imagine it is a more important piece of information for them to have. If you only return it for proper disposal then consider donating it to someone who needs it but can’t afford it.

The key things with phones,is to buy them outright from the manufacturer and avoid going through carriers. Financing a phone through a carrier at the prices they're charging should be illegal just like those payday loan places. It's highway robbery.

I buy mine outright. Carriers finance at 0%. So does apple.

Deman19901, and this is meant with sincerity, your enthusiastic adherence to the non Apple POV is admirable. Whether this specific data is or is not verified, your argument is certainly spirited. But consider your argument here is that “resale value means ‘absolutely’ nothing”. That one is plumbing the depths of “you’re seriously saying that?”.

1) Resale value is important. 2) the resale market usually is (not absolutely is) to be a truer valuation. 3) I think you should reconsider believing those are incorrect or controversial statements.

This simply is not true. It will be true for some, it will not be true for everyone.
Further regarding financing, as one example, a seller that offers zero or close to zero percent financing (assuming same asking price point) is going to be ideal. Zero percent offers were available 2020-2021. They are likely to be less available (but still available) in the next couple of years.

I am starting to see why people are having so much emotional attachment to these devices.

Doesn’t really matter if you finance or buy it outright.
Samsung s22 loses 50% of it value in 2 months while the iPhone does not.

If you have to finance a phone, perhaps you don't need that phone. That was the point I was trying to make.

That was not clear at all from what you posted. I’m not even able to find that sentiment now in rereading it. Regardless my point stands. The financing is 0%. Being able to afford something is not the same as being able to buy something outright. And to be honest, it isn’t your place to be deciding what other people can or cannot afford.

Umm, huh? Did you just use the word “emotion” within your appeal to emotion phrase? Nonetheless and back to the actual points, your absolute statements that you should never do a carrier deal and resale value means nothing — a particularly egregiously bad statement— are so demonstrably untrue that it is almost as if you typed them out of….oh what’s the word I’m looking for….emotion (which would be better than the other explanation).
