Rivian's CEO says they're never adopting CarPlay, and I think that's the right move

I strongly disagree.

Not so much for actually using CarPlay, but the ability to use other gadgets via the CarPlay interface.

I have gadgets in all of my cars that use the CarPlay interface to connect to the vehicle. It doesn’t matter how good automobile software gets, because it will always be crippled and likely quickly outdated.

The gadgets that I use effectively convert the vehicles’ screens into full-featured Android tablets. If I want to display extra gauges in the car, I can just install and OBDII reader app and have them displayed on the screen.

I can install tablet-class navigation apps with more powerful features, or have “real” Apple Music or any other entertainment app.

In a vehicle that supports CarPlay, I can put absolutely anything that I want on the screen instead of limited to what the manufacturer deems permissible.

I’ve gotten so spoiled with this that a vehicle without CarPlay is a non-starter.
