Remote app won't play music through iPad but plays through Mac

Playing my Mac's iTunes music through my iPad in a different room with the remote app has worked until recently.

NOW:

Home sharing is on. ITunes is on on my Mac, and I can see my Mac's iTunes libraries from my iPad.

When I select a tune to play, it shows as playing in the Remote App on the iPad, but no sound comes out.

When I went across the house, I found that it WAS playing aloud on my Mac. Remote is playing it there only.

Shouldn't this be as it was before, accessing my Mac's music to play on the IPAD?

When I open the Music App with Remote closed, and click on "Shared" it sees my Mac, but when I click on my Mac as a selection, the wheel to the right spins and never kicks in as it once did.

Somehow, the Remote App IS seeing my Mac and letting me control the music from my iPad. It's just no longer playing THROUGH my iPad as it once did.

I've tried this with Music on. Remote off, and vice versa.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Did you check the volume and/or the mute switch on the iPad?
