I noticed that all the pictures that have been posted with the dot in them seem to have been taken in the dark with a single, very bright light source in it. Would the dot not just be a reflection of the light off the lens/lens cover? Does the dot appear on the display before you snap the picture? If so, move the camera around and see if the dot moves.
