It doesn't let me delete photos. What do I do?

I barely have any storage, so I decided to delete old photos. I have picked 4,200 I want to delete but when I clicked the trash can icon, it doesn't let me. I tried taking off the case but it didn't work. I have and iPhone 5 and it has a broken screen. Please help! ☹
