Ipod Backup to Macbook Air

I have an old Ipod ( Ipod Classic , Software 2.0.5) with tons of music on it. I have recently setup my Macbook Air (10.15.4) new, so my itunes has no music in it. How can I backup or Sync my Ipod to my macbook, so that I also have the music from the ipod available on the Macbook?

I am afraid that, if I press "sync", all files on the ipod are getting deleted.
