@whmurray I'm referring to the new contract/early upgrade prices of $199 and $299. They are a staple and will either stay the same or even possibly become LOWER. But Apple will not bring them up to $399. Not a chance. I buy each phone and am eligible for early upgrade each year, and I pay the new contract price.

@loudrims_inc The 16GB model will not be $299, and when did the 3GS's price go down? About a week ago, at Wal-Mart only, when the new iPhone was well on its way... It's not a good price when the new version is right around the corner and you're signing a 2 year contract with last year's hardware. It wasn't even an official price cut, and Apple still sells the 3GS at $199 and $299 just as they did on the release date.

It's not going to get a price cut this year, especially not as early as October. You might be better off just paying the extra this year in the 2 month release period, then you'll be eligible for early upgrade next year. Bite the bullet once and you won't have to deal with the headache ever again. Right?

so do u think there will be another 16gb or will they start off at 32gb????

Apple has NO pressure on the internal capacity front. No other manufacturer is willing to put sizeable internal storage into their devices and they instead choose to rely on slower SD storage. For this reason, I don't see why Apple would choose to use undoubtedly much more expensive chips (to achieve 64GB storage). I see it maybe happening in 2011, because of the Windows Phone 7 hardware coming out, as it's a requirement for all WP7 handsets to have at least 8GB of internal flash storage. Also, because the prototypes we've seen have all been 16GB in storage, I feel like it's going to be another year of 16 and 32, at $199 and $299. Possibly they will do something shocking and remove the 3GS completely, offering the new 16GB model at $99, and the 32GB at $199. I doubt it but it could happen, as other high-end phones are getting less expensive than the high-end iPhone.

Also they could possibly offer a 16GB model, and a 64GB model. I just doubt they will offer 3 models of the new iPhone in terms of capacity because it would get too expensive for them to all have the same price difference, unless they lower that difference to $50...

It's really hard to say what they'll do but I feel like the safest and most likely is 16 and 32GB at the same prices as now.

All I know is that last year I paid $499-.

In any case, I no longer care. I do not plan to pay AT&T one more dollar that I do not have to.

Who really cares? Most of the cost is in the subscription, not he phone. Most os us will spend more than the price of the phone on software.

Not me. Not this time. Not even with Apple dollars. They are not acting in good faith. This time they have gone too far. At some point the iPhone is not sufficient reason for doing business with slime.

$499!!!!! Why??????????????
How the hell should I know. What I do know is that a lot of us paid it. But not this time. I do not plan to pay the "steaming pile of failure" one more damned discretionary dime.

The rule says that I must assume that they are stupid rather than malicious. However, the evidence for malice is piling up.

Those who paid $499 were the people who had bought a 3G back in 08 and didn't qualify for discounted 3GS.

Yeah...... I don't see how Apple would release a 64GB version, But if they do, im sure that they will probably discontinue the 32GB 3GS. And plus, $499 does sound kinda accurate for a 64GB version
