How to use iMaps in IOS 8?

MAPS IOS8 is a huge mystery to me. I am using Maps on iphone and ipad, ios 8.
2043I AM computer and mobile literate, but this just does not make sense to me! It is not intuitive. I am willing to learn, and normally do so by trying. But this is crazy, and all I would like is a tutorial. Or ANYTHING that resembles HELP! Can anyone tell me WHERE?
