Using a remote shutter in photo booth apps

Hi, we're planning to set up a DIY photobooth for our wedding using an ipad (mini). We've seen discussions about using headphone buttons as a remote so thought we'd go one better and have bought a single button 'clicker' that plugs into the 3.5mm jack socket. It's 'm shoot' bought from an online ebay shop.

It works great on the ipad standard camera, but when we try and use it in a photo booth app, pressing the button just mutes the headphones volume.

Is there any way to get these apps to recognise it as a camera shutter, as the ipad standard camera does??

Apps need to be written to make use of the shutter release via cable/Bluetooth...
