How to turn on iPhone 5 with defective power button

I have an iPhone 5, with a defective wake/sleep button which Apple won't repair. The Apple guy showed me how to use assistive tech to power off the phone. Now that I've done it, I can't turn the phone back on.

Any thoughts?

Just use your charger to power it back up. It's a pain if you power it off often but that's really the only way.

Apple won't repair it at all? Or Apple won't repair it for free?

It seems odd that Apple would refuse to repair it at all.

There's always Ali's DIY Fix-it articles on the Blog side... and plenty of 3rd party service places and Apple Authorized service places one can obtain repairs for devices too.
