Carplay and USB stored music

I am new to Apple Carplay so sorry if this question has been asked or is just plain dumb
Can i play music stored on a USB (that plays already through my car) through Apple Carplay?
Not sure if it ha the capability to connect to the Hosting car stereo.

I’ll tell you what I do in my car. I go to media input and select USB stick or radio to listen to Mets games and then I go to CarPlay and set my navigation and it’ll play. Only way it stops playing is if I select a music app in CarPlay. My head unit in VW Tiguan has a button for APP (CarPlay) and a separate button for MEDIA which allows me to select other inputs. I guess it would all depend on how your head unit handles CarPlay.
