Can I stop Maps from starting automatically in CarPlay?

As soon as I connect my iPhone to my car (VW Golf), the Maps app opens and starts using data from my plan. Sometimes, I want to connect my phone to use other apps, but not Maps. Is there a way to prevent that app from opening automatically each time I connect my phone to my car?

I don’t know. That doesn’t happen when I connect my iPhone to my car. When I initiate CarPlay, I see the home screen. Hopefully, those who are experiencing what you are will reply soon with a remedy.
