Can apps such as Facebook still access your iPhones microphone while is in lock mode?

Curious as to whether different apps allowed microphone access pick up conversations or noise even when not being used, specifically if the phone is in lock mode.

That would be a glaring security hole. I doubt Apple would allow that, so I'm going to say no.
