Any way to only sync favorite pictures from Mac if I get iCloud photo ?

I have 2 iOS devices, and a mac. I am tempted to get iCloud to keep the IOS devices in sync, as well as free up some storage, and having those pictures in my mac as well. So maybe a 200GB plan is good enough.

But my mac also has tons of pictures from my SLR, which is more than 500GB in its entirety, but I really don't need to have the whole library sync up.

Is there any way to just sync the favorites from the mac library, as well as all my IOS pictures to iCloud?

Unless I'm misunderstanding your post, the answer is "no". All photos will be synced.

Before enabling sync to iCloud on your Mac, export the photos you do not want to sync to a folder on your Mac... Then delete them from your Photo library.
