Apple did great last quarter 64% or two thirds of the entire US market, while android is imploding. Samsung and pixels marketshare are in free fall.

Actually not just the US but globally:
“If you look at the U.S., iPhone grew and the installed base hit an all-time high; it’s very difficult to measure the replacement cycle at any given point, so Apple focuses on the installed base, which is growing”

But China:
Currently number 1 in China for q4 as well as the entire year. Additionally:
“Solid growth on iPhone upgraders YoY in China and 4 of the top 6 smartphones in urban China”

India and Indonesia:
India grew strong double digits as Apple managed to surpass the 10-million-unit mark in shipments and is now number 1 in revenue for the Indian smartphone market, the first time in a calendar year. Indonesia hit a quarterly record in iPhone adoption for q4

Everywhere else:
Installed based hit record high, The company set all-time records in several countries and regions, including Latin America, Western Europe, the Middle East, and Korea.

iPhones were 4 out of the top 5 models in the U.S. and Japan,
4 out of the top 6 models in urban China and the UK
All top 5 models in Australia.

Info from the q4 2024 or Apple q1 financial call

In central London iPhones are almost at 90%. I don’t even see any android devices anymore.

iPhone supremacy spreading out of central London .

This probably explains why, premium android is pretty much dead

Proof that more and more people are willing to accept overpriced, outdated tech in the name of being in the "club". I use Apple products but their ingenuity died with Steve Jobs. Since then it's been incremental improvements to the same old technology. The big news for ios 18 is the ability to move icons around on the screen like Android has been since day 1. Apple's success says more about the customer base than it does about the products.

Some people will only buy a Toyota vehicle even though there are numerous other brands with similar or better vehicles. Some people will only buy groceries from Publix even though Food Lion, Winn Dixie, Walmart and others sell the same and/or similar products. Some people prefer the iPhone over other brands even though the other brands may have more / better features.

My point is this: People like what they like and prefer what they prefer. It’s their prerogative. Right?

It definitely is. My point is that people's perogative isn't always an indicator of better products or services. People make choices for many different reasons. In the case of Apple vs Android, Apple has a far superior marketing department and much better customer support via the Apple Stores. Don't get me wrong, I love my 15PM and AWU2 but Apple needs to step their game, IMO.

More unfinished features, which Android oems usually have to rework/copy after Apple shows them how to do it.

Probably why apples customer base is increasing due to Android users switching.

I’m definitely in agreement with you. There’s no doubt that many iPhone users choose the iPhone because it is deemed a status symbol. Others like its simplicity even though it’s not as simple to use as it once was in my opinion. Apple’s customer service is indeed top notch, and that alone is a reason for people to choose the iPhone. Anyway, I appreciate the follow up.

An argument can be made that Android eventually copies Apple, whereas Apple eventually fine tunes the good things from Android.

TBH, I just wish Apple would be more innovative. They keep putting out the same stale product year after year. I'm less impressed every year.

That’s too much pressure on any person or entity, in my opinion, especially when there are no guarantees that consumers will buy it or accept it. Remember Betamax, the large laser discs, and even Apple’s Newton Message Pad?

Not really.

Apple has been transitioning features from Mac OS to iOS since iPhoneOS was launched in 2007.

Google on the other has been copying iOS and Mac OS features and design since they decided to cancel the Android bb clone back in 2007 and copy the iPhone and iOS.
