Transparency mode acts almost like a "hearing aid"...I always keep it on when my AirPods Pro are in my ear(s), unless I'm listening to music.

I tried my mother's $3000 hearing aids. The AP Pro has better fidelity. In our HQ office I hear over desk dividers or sit working in the c suite conference room and hear things outside the door that would not happen without them.

I do know I have some hearing loss and bad tinnitus but for now will use the AirPod Pros before I get hearing aids.

These create other wonderful effects in transparency mode. Last week I was on a bus in another country. The combo of local music from my phone, hearing what was going on in the bus, the feel and the sights made it like a living movie and sound track better than a director or theme park engineer could do.

I tried out transparency mode yesterday as I worked in my office. I can definitely understand now why this is such a great option.

Off is like the regular AirPods. Noise Cancelling, samples the noise in the environment and try to get rid of the background noise. Transparency lets outside noise in so you can hear the surroundings.

So I had to get another set of AirPods Pro and it seems as though the transparency mode isn't as robust and transparent as my first set. I'm not sure if it's just me and my weird ears. Has anyone else experienced this?

OK user error. A good friend told me about the transparency settings. These settings apparently was introduced with iOS 14
