I just bought a used rMBP. upgraded to Mavericks. I'm trying to download keynotes, pages and numbers. But I need to supply the Mac app store with the serial number and the date of purchase. I don't know when the MacBook was bought since I wasn't the original buyer. Am I not able to download the apps because I don't know the date of purchase? Or is there a work around for it? Please let me know asap. Thank you very much for the help.

Hm That's odd, as far as I know when you upgrade to mavericks and if your device qualifies to get the new software, when you log in to the Mac app store it automatically should tell you that you have the downloads available. I've never heard of someone needing to provide the purchase date, but that's just me.

In any case, can't you just ask to the person you bought it from ?

I bought it from Craigslist. You know how that goes. Once the transaction is complete... I'll see you never again. I just don't understand how the serial number isn't valid. It's really odd
