Hi, I can confirm this. I have a 12 inch ipad pro on latest ios (as of 29 dec 2017) and 87W charger and a 1m usb-c to lightning cable. Charging does not work.
The literature on the 87W power adapter says it only supports output combinations of 1) 20.2V@4.3A 2) 9V@3A 3) 5.2V@2.4A that is to say it does not output at 14.5V@2A which has been stated by Serenity as required for fast charging. Secondly, the usb-c to lightning cable does not even seem to ‘latch on’ (click sound) properly to the 87W adapter (whereas the usb-c to usb-c cable I got with the 87W adapter itself does attach properly)...so I think there’s a difference in the pin architecture/layout of the usb-c to lightning cable. So now I’ve separately ordered the 29W adapter. Will report back once I get it.
