I just dropped $1800 for a MBP yesterday. Worth every penny. Yeah you might want to look at one a few years old. Can't get much with that except windows.

With carigs list just watch out. Meet up at a public place. We had a guy here in my area who was held up after he had a guy come to his house after selling something on craigs list. Lucky the guy was not harmed. Just some stuff was stolen. If the seller refuses to meet up, then no deal.

I saw one go on ebay yesterday for $415 - 2008 model. I was kinda pissed too. I put my bid in with 20 seconds left for $410 and someone beat me out in the last 5 seconds. Check ebay daily. They pop up pretty frequently.

I had a friend that just sold a 2008 13" Aluminum MacBook for $600. Macs really hold their value... so I'd say you're looking at a machine that's at least 2-1/2 to 3 years old...

We also have an Apple authorized dealer here in town who takes Macs in trade against new Macs... maybe if you have a place like that where you live you might find something...

yeah I think you're gonna be better off like Hank said looking for somewhere that has refurbished models a little older. If you go on the Apple site go on the left side and look at the refurbished stuff just to compare. It wont be anywhere near the price you're looking for but it will give you a good idea.

Yeah, they will be a little older but worth it .. I just picked up a Black Macbook 13inch 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2 Gigs of Ram for $350 ... I was happy with that deal.

If you're a student you could try the apple education store, I think they are cheaper there but not by much. There's usually some kind of extra you get too, i.e. free ipod or printer

Those discounts are less than 10% (leaving the price still north of $1400 depending on the model chosen)... and the student bundle offer changed this year from an iPod to a $100 iTunes gift card.

You're looking for a macbook or macbook Pro? Apple sells refurbs, if you want to take a look. I just bought a refurbed iMac from them this past December and it was like new. Have not had one single issue so far. I just looked and there's a macbook listed on there for around $850 and MBPs for around $1000 which is a lot less than they cost brand new.

^^^ And a lot more than the initial budget that they were talking about...honestly, for any legitimate macbook in that price range, you simply wont be able to get newer than the 07/08 2.0 or 2.2 core 2 duo regular macbooks.

The MBP was a lot more, but the regular MacBook, not so much. Just thought it might be worth looking into.

Since you mentioned a "legitimate" macbook, what would be an illegitimate one?
