+1 on the silver. I got a 256GB silver to replace the same combo in an 11 Pro Max. Sat at the Apple store and set it up. Been in a clear case with a screen protector since before it was ever even turned on.

This is simply not true. On Windows one can open File Explorer to view the phone's photos directories, which will contain original .heic files (if the setting I described in a previous post is configured as I described).

The setting you want is in Settings->Photos. Scroll to the bottom and find the section labeled "Transfer to Mac or PC" and make sure that "Keep Originals" is checked. (If "Automatic" is checked, the phone will advertise .jpg files to your PC, even if the files are actually .heic.)

For me it's more important to have more storage on my iPad than my iPhone, because I put movies (from Vudu, iTunes, ...) and TV (from TiVo) on it. On my 64GB iPhone 8 Plus I have ~850 songs and thousands and thousands of photos, and still have almost 20GB of space remaining. I don't regret not...

That isn't correct. This morning at an Apple store I held in my hands simultaneously a T-Mobile and a Sprint iPhone 8. The verbiage on the back of the box for the Sprint one specifically mentions "CDMA" in the list of the supported technology. That term is missing from the T-Mobile one.
