Mac Pro 5.1 for Animation work

So, I am looking at mac pro 5.1 pcs for my 3D animation work. Does anyone have experience with these desktop pcs? Does it make a noticable difference when working with a 4, 6, 8 or 12 core for rendering purposes for example?

from what I understand, 3D software benefits a lot from the number of CPU cores but it's not the only factor.

I was wondering if the difference between an 8 and 12 core is worth the extra bucks
