If you have a recent MacBook or MacBook Pro with USB C charging brick all you need is the official Apple USB C to lightning cable. I picked one up yesterday at Best Buy.

Just picked a USB-C to Lightning cable last night to go with my Apple 29W charger.

I worried that feeding my phone all this extra charging power will decrease battery life in the long run.

Is it better for the battery to stick with the slow charger?

I bought one yesterday as well, but only really plan on using it for those days when I'm in a hurry. It shouldn't hurt your battery much though. It's only gonna fast charge until it gets to s certain battery percentage. Then it'll just go back to regular charging. It's all regulated through the cable so as not to allow too much charge to damage the phone or battery.
