I didn't like ToneFX and neither did my boyfriend. It doesn't have a big variety of sounds. I downloaded my own thru Cydia, individually and got the results I was after. My email now has the "You've Got Mail" sound simply because I downloaded that one particular mail theme sound, and activated it using Winterboard.

Lots of people really like ToneFX, however, so give it a go if you want to experiment. :)

P.S. I'm jailbroken too. There isn't a way to change them if you're not.

The point of toneFXs is to use the desktop client to create your own sounds.

Calendar Alarm helps you change calendar alert tones

Is there any way to set/change the alert tones for new email, new voicemail, calendar alerts?

I have the 3GS with 3.0 software.

Thanks,

Denny

We made a loud and long alarm possible with an app called Calendar Alarm, now available in the app store. The alarm syncs with the default Calendar. There are 12 sounds to choose between and the sounds rings for 10 or 30 seconds. In the upcoming version (begin september 2010) we will also add a repeat/snooze.
App store name: Calendar Alarm
App id367803799

Also don't forget to switch of the original Calendar ALert tone. You can do this as following: Go to the standard iPhone Settings, choose Sounds, scroll down to Calendar Alerts. The default is on , you just need to set the switch to off.

There's an app called MAILTONES that does alerts for email. It's in the iTunes store and costs $2.99. I need it for using my iPhone as a pager for work... it does a very reliable job.

It works by you forwarding a copy of the emails in question to their site - they receive them and send you a custom alert. Your email still comes to your iPhone apart from their process. It's kind of a kludge, but it's all that's possible, given Mr Jobs' obsession with controlling everything we do with our iPhones.

You can use ToneFXs to choose individual sounds from the sound themes you download on Cydia. Just don't use Winterboard to activate them, use ToneFXs.
