Why do I lose my playlists when I sync my iphone 6s plus & ipad air 2

When I sync my gadgets via USB I lose my playlists which is most frustrating as they take a substantial amount of time to create?

I have no idea.
It’s been a while I have synced my iPhone to iTunes on a computer since Music came out.

I hope somebody with a solution stops by to help you out.
