Why doesn't tapping the space bar twice produce a period in my text messages?

Before I downloaded the iOS update for my Iphone 6, I was able to put a period in a text by tapping the space bar twice. Now that feature doesn't work. Wondering what I'm doing wrong or if that feature is not available anymore?

Double-tapping the spacebar while texting inserts a period for me.

Make sure the shortcut is enabled under Settings > General > Keyboards

If this does not work, try a "HARD RESET" (hold power and home buttons down until the Apple screen appears and then release. Let iPhone continue the reboot process).
