is there an led indicator on the Iphone that will light up when i receive a text or email like my blackberry use to do. If so what is the name of the app or what are the settings on the Iphone to make it work. thank you in advance

No there is not. You can set up the back flash LED to blink via the accessibility options but it's not exactly what you are looking for.
