Desktop Connect App

So i'm able to get it to work with my MBP over wifi which in/around the house. How do I connect when I'm not home?

I use a program called Jump. It's an app that uses Remote Desktop Protocol and you can set it up with a gmail account and that will mimic a VPN when you're out of the house. If you use Windows, that is.
