Handoff b/w iPhone 5s and iPad Air and vice versa

Is there a way to set up Handoff on both my 5s and iPad Air, and not my 2010 MBP 13" laptop with OS X Yosemite? The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of giving my MBP to my dad since his PC is almost dead. I would most likely just have my iPhone and iPad. I wouldn't be too sure on getting the 13" MBPr right now or ever since I use my iPad and iPhone more than my laptop.

Both my iPhone 5s and iPad Air have the latest iOS 8 updated installed.
