When the YouTube app is in the dock when do I get a little alarm clock on the YouTube app icon? I haven’t got any notifications to clear on YouTube.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you don't have any sub updates/comment replies, you won't get a notification icon on the app icon.

Maybe I should try to get a picture of it tomorrow as it only happens when I first unlock my iPad the next day.

From what I can find, the little alarm clock icon is a "message" from Siri, which explains why the icon is on your dock, that YouTube has been added to your dock at that time because you frequently watch YouTube about that time of day. Apparently it will add the little icon for different things, such as adding the GPS type icon if an app is added because you use that app in your current location.
